The truck was proceeding on West Market Street after taking a sharp curve from old Wallace Place, when just East of Rutgers Street the Truck struck a florist truck at 174 West Market Street. F/M Curran was riding the side of the tiller section and was thrown to the pavement and crushed. He died a short time later at the hospital of internal injuries. He was appointed on 6/3/1902 and assigned on 6/16/1902 to Engine 5. The same day, he was transferred to Engine 8. On 1/6/1908, he transferred to Engine 14. On 1/8/1908, he transferred back to Engine 8. On 12/29/1928, he transferred to Engine 26. His badge # was 265 and he was 49 years old at the time of his death. |

During 1916, he was commended for meritorious work in fighting a fire, resulting from an ammonia explosion on Elizabeth Avenue where several civilians were killed. On 5/5/1919, he transferred to Engine 12. He later transferred to Truck 12. His badge # was 239 and he was 61 years old at the time of his death. |

Captain John J. Walser was assigned to Engine 32. While fighting a brush fire on 5/3/1939, he collapsed in cardiac arrest. An inhalator was used for some time, but he was pronounced dead. Captain Raymond R. Reilly was assigned to Truck 1. On 4/8/1966, while off duty in Bloomfield, he was electrocuted and killed while trying to rescue a boy stuck up in a train tower. An unknown sniper shot him while on the aerial. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was appointed on 12/16/1949. On 10/7/1960, he was promoted to Captain. |

Lineman John DiNicolas was assigned to the Fire Alarm Division. On 9/22/1968 he was at the Jersey shore in Lavalette, and attempted to try to save a boy in a rip tide. L/M DiNicolas also became caught in the rip tide resulting in him drowning, but the boy was saved. His body was recovered several hours later. |

Fireman (Acting Captain) Marcus A. Reddick was assigned to Engine 5. On 12/31/1985, he was attempting to rescue a women from the second floor via a ground ladder. The woman jumped, grabbed F/M Reddick and fell to the ground. F/M Reddick suffered severe head trauma and died on 1/2/1986. He was appointed on 7/3/1978. Badge # 836
Marcus Reddick was granted the distinction of dying a true hero, saving a life of a 67 year old woman while he was alive, and even in death continuing to save lives through the use of his liver, kidneys and heart implanted to keep life beating in other victims. |

He later transferred to Truck 12. He was 54 years old at the time of his death. |

Michael J. DeLane |
Fireman Michael J. DeLane (Acting Captain) was assigned to Rescue 1. While fighting a fatal two-alarm fire on 10/29/1994, he was on an aerial with another firefighter when the firefighter's equipment came in contact with a live wire. Both F/M were electrocuted, but F/M DeLane came in contact with the wire a second time as well. F/M Delane was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was appointed on 5/2/1988. He later transferred to Rescue 1. His badge # was 387 and he was 33 years old at the time of his death. |

Richard A. Heinze |
Fireman Richard A. Heinze was assigned to Truck 12. On 6/4/1999, Truck 12 had returned from a run, and a short time later F/M Heinze collapsed in the bunkroom in cardiac arrest. All attempts to revive him proved futile and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 47 years old at the time of his death. |

Fireman Lawrence J. Webb was assigned to Engine 13. On 5/22/2001, he was fighting a blaze at 47 Beaumont Place when he was found in cardiac arrest.
